Accredited Security Management Specialist

The following training has achieved university accreditation, which enables qualifying individuals to proceed onto a programme of continuing academic study using credits gained through the training.

Module 1

Principles of good practice

Designed to give participants an understanding of the strategy to manage security in an organisation and their role within this.

Module 2

Incident detection

Local Security Management Specialists (LSMSs) need to understand the relevant legislation to fulfil the requirements of their role. This module explores pieces of legislation they will need to refer to. Students learn what types of evidence can be used and how to gather this effectively from witnesses.

Module 3

Incident investigation

Introduces students to the process of an investigation and the procedures that must be followed. This includes the cognitive interview, which allows students to work with the police in gathering evidence from those suspected of committing crime.

Module 4

Sanctions

The security management remit is broad, and translates into specific action in many areas. If this action is to be effective, appropriate sanctions must be used to deter and prevent security incidents. Students learn the principles of crime prevention, allowing them to conduct crime reduction surveys in their workplaces.

Module 5

Prevention and detection  Examines the measures that are being taken to protect the NHS’s assets – most importantly, the people who work within it. The security of medicines and hazardous materials is high on the agenda, as is planning for major security incidents. Students are taught how to influence policy development so that security is addressed at every level.
