Pensions Online (POL) is an online tool based on the internal NHS Network (N3) which gives employers the facility to update and amend member’s records.

Please check for any newly posted messages below before accessing POL.

 Subject Age Estimates and Benefits Statements - CETV value
 Message

In the Budget on 23 March 2011, HM Treasury confirmed that they were considering a review of the basis for the calculation of CETVs payable from public service schemes, including the NHSPS.

That review is complete and HM Treasury has issued revised guidance. We have now assessed the impact of the changes and updated our systems.

There is no longer a need to cross out any reference to the CETV (figures and information) from any AEBS statements that you produce. Also, there is no longer a need to include the CETV AEBS insert about CETVs with any statements that you issue to members.

 Subject Age Estimates and Benefit Statements functionality - 2008 Optants

A system enhancement is under development on the Choice 2008 scheme enacted functionality (only) within the new Age Estimates and Benefit Statements (AEBS) suite functionality.

Please refrain from using this functionality ( 2008 enacted cases only) until further notice.

 Subject Age Estimates and Benefit Statements (AEBS) on Pensions Online

Following the introduction of the AEBS functionality into Pensions Online at the end of September NHS Pensions has received a number of issues and concerns from a number of Employers regarding their ability to provide Estimates locally to meet Members requirements.

The new functionality intended to provide award quality information combined with the updateness of member’s pension records is causing far more requests to be directed to NHS Pensions than anticipated and preventing employers from being able to provide estimates on request.

NHS Pensions would like to apologise for the impact of these changes and any implications or inconvenience is has caused Pension Administrators.

In the first instance, NHS Pensions has put in place with immediate effect a dedicated team to ensure that all estimates requiring data cleanse will be resolved within a maximum of 48 hours.

We are currently in urgent discussions with our IT partner Xafinity Paymaster to investigate ways to resolve the arising issues to enable employers to fulfil local requests. Further information on progress in regard to this will be provided shortly.

 Subject Pensions Online Ill Health Estimates

When you print off an Ill-health estimate to give to a member please can you substitute the keynotes headed ‘About Retirement Due to Ill Health’ with the updated version available here, About Retirement Due to Ill Health 

The updated keynotes includes information for members about returning to work when in receipt of a Tier 2 pension. There are restrictions that we are required to disclose to members in receipt of ill-health benefits. We are currently working to update these key notes within the system.

 Subject Redundancy Transitional Protection
 Message

From 1st October 2011 the transitional protection has ended for retirees leaving due to Compensation/Redundancy. Although you are no longer required to choose between Choice A & B, you must still complete part 5 of the AW8 form in order to process the form through POL.

 Subject POL estimates (including Age Estimates & Benefit Statements) - membership greater than 45 years
 Message

You will need to refer any cases to NHS Pensions, where an estimate has been processed on POL and the membership exceeds 45 years. Please either send a paper AW295 marked “maximum membership” or e-mail employers@nhspa.gov.uk with “maximum membership” in the subject line. 

It is important that you do not issue the estimate to the member until NHS Pensions has confirmed that it is ok to do so.
