The Prison Prescribing Report shows FP10 prescribing by Prison Practices for prescriptions that have been dispensed by a community pharmacy on the offender's release.
The report is available on a monthly basis to national level users. PCT users can see their prison prescribing information within the ePACT.net system and Prison Practice users can see their prescribing information via the electronic Prescribing & Financial Information for Practices (ePFIP) system.
Report Content
The report is organised by PCT and shows total values for Number of Items, Cost, Dispensing Fees and Average Fee per Item for each prison practice in the PCT. These values are defined as:
Number of Items
Number of prescribed items. A prescription item refers to a single item prescribed on a prescription form.
Cost
The NIC (Net Ingredient Cost) or basic price of a drug, i.e. the price listed in the Drug Tariff. The NIC of any prescribed item is the same whoever the prescriber may be.
Dispensing Fees
The Dispensing Fees reported are an approximation of the fees paid to the dispenser based on a national average of fees paid per item plus any additional special fees paid for each individual item
Average Fee per Item
The value for Dispensing Fees divided by the Number of Items
There are also total values shown for each PCT with overall totals for all prison practices in England shown on the last page of the report.
