Security of people and property is of concern to us all. Physical assaults and abuse are particular concerns that have to be given priority. All those who work hard to deliver services have the right to do so without fear of violence.
The NHS Security Management Service strategy document A Professional Approach to Managing Security in the NHS (PDF 851KB) defines the overall aims, objectives and individual elements of the business process model that the organisation uses to ensure a safe and secure NHS.
The process described involves identifying the problems, developing appropriate solutions and taking action through a national structure. This structure is founded on:
- the profession of Local Security Management Specialist
- a common language, skills and methodology
- consistent high standards.
A national structure with a clear and strong legal framework and clearly defined roles is essential to the delivery of a safe and secure environment.
Creating a series of training modules around this process gave us the opportunity to set in place a complete learning route that is university-accredited.
