Introduction of the NHS Smoking Cessation Service and revocation of the Community Pharmacy Covid-19 Lateral Flow Device Distribution Service

New Secretary of State Directions 7BI and 7BJ (PDF: 196KB) of the 2013 Directions have been signed and published today, 9 March 2022, introducing the NHS Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Service.

This will see community pharmacies help to support inpatients who start a stop smoking attempt in hospital and will enable them to be referred to a community pharmacy for on-going provision of smoking cessation support to continue their stop smoking journey once they are discharged.

The Drug Tariff Part VIC Smoking Cessation Service Determination has also been published. This document includes information on the upfront payments and service fees payable to pharmacy contractors who register and deliver the service.

Community Pharmacy Covid-19 Lateral Flow Device Distribution Service

Following the announcement that all Covid-19 restrictions in England are ending on 24 February. Free mass testing will end from 1 April.  Article 4 in the Secretary of State Directions (PDF: 196KB) revokes directions 7BE and 7BF of the 2013 Directions and consequential amendments concerning the Pharmacy Collect service.
