NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (Minor Illness and Urgent Repeat Medicines Supply pathways)

The NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS) is a national Advanced Service to refer patients requiring low acuity advice, treatment and urgent repeat prescriptions to community pharmacies.

The service aims to reduce pressure on the primary and urgent care system, particularly Accident and Emergency and GP out of hours. The service will support the integration of community pharmacy into the urgent care system.

Amended Directions for the NHS Community Pharmacist Consultation Service have been made.  They apply from 29 October and will be included in Part VIC of the Drug Tariff from December.

Registering and deregistering for the service

If you want to provide the service, you need to register to use the Manage your service (MYS) portal.

Registrations are open from 1 September 2019. The service will be live from 29 October 2019. NHS England has agreed with PSNC that claims for referrals received from 29 October to 31 October 2019 will be incorporated into the November 2019 submission claim.

The service will replace the NHS Urgent Medicines Supply Advanced Service (NUMSAS) pilot and the NHS111 Digital Minor Illness Referral Service (NHS111 DMIRS) pilot.  The NUMSAS pilot scheme ended on 28 October 2019.  If you still need to submit an outstanding claim view the NUMSAS page for further details.

If you sign up to CPCS between 1 September 2019 and 11:59pm on 1 December 2019, you'll receive a £900 transition payment. If you sign up between 2 December 2019 and 11:59pm on 15 January 2020, you'll receive £600.

Any registrations after 16 January 2020 will not receive a transition payment. 

If you want to deregister from the service, you will be able to do so via the MYS portal.

Submitting a claim for payment

You will need to use either PharmaOutcomes or Sonar Health to receive referrals and process claims. The MYS portal will be automatically prepopulated with the claim information. You will then be able to verify and submit claims each month.

EPS tokens for exempt patients must still be sent to NHSBSA to be scanned and kept for Post Payment Verification (PPV) purposes.
