Service Targets

The following table sets out NHS Pensions’ service targets for processing different pension events. Before contacting us please check to see if your request is still within these targets.

 Area Service targets 
Payment of retirement benefits To make payment within the later of 30 calendar days of the date of your retirement or the date NHS Pensions receives all the  information required  to  calculate and pay your benefits. We aim to pay any lump sum on the day following retirement.
Revisions to  retirement benefits already in payment To make adjusted payments within 30 calendar days of the date NHS Pensions receives all the information  required  to  calculate and pay your revised benefits.
Bereavement  - Lump sum on death benefit To make payment within 30 calendar days of the date NHS Pensions receives all the information required to calculate and pay the benefit.
Bereavement – Adult dependant’s pension To make payment within 30 calendar days of the date NHS Pensions receives all the information required to calculate and pay the benefit.
Bereavement – Children’s pension To make payment within 30 calendar days of the date NHS Pensions receives all the information required to calculate and pay the benefit.
Refund of contributions To make payment within 30 calendar days of the date NHS Pensions receives all the information required to process  the refund payment.
Transfer In -Provisional quotation Within 2 calendar months of receipt of a valid request.
Transfer In – Payment/Finalisation Within 2 calendar months of receipt of payment from the previous pension scheme/policy.
Transfer Out – Estimate or Guaranteed Cash Equivalent Transfer Value (CETV)  Within 3 calendar months of the date of receipt of a valid  request.
Transfer Out – Payment Within 6 calendar months of the guarantee date on the guaranteed CETV quotation.
5 Year Rejoiner – CETV Within 6 calendar months from the date of rejoining the Scheme (9 months if we need further information).
Pensions on Divorce/Dissolution – CETV Within 3 calendar months from receipt of a completed Pension on Divorce/Dissolution (POD) application pack.
Estimate – Officer Within 40 working days of receipt of a valid request.
Estimate – Practitioner Within 40 working days of receipt of a valid request.


*If you request a standard Age Estimate and our records show that you have a Total Reward or Annual Benefit Statement available then you will be redirected to view your statement online. The statements can be accessed via ESR Self Service, if your organisation uses this facility, or through the TRS portal at: www.totalrewardstatements.nhs.uk/  

 

  • If you wish to opt out of the Scheme the form SD502 is available to download here. If you do not have the facility to download or print this form please contact the Members Helpline to request application form SD502.
  • Members requiring an estimate of your benefits - Total Reward Statement/Annual Benefit Statements provide information on your pension benefits. More information can be found here.  If a statement is not available, please contact your pension/payroll/HR department/practice manager for an estimate of your retirement benefits as the majority of employers have access to an online retirement modelling tool that is available 24/7. If your employer does not have access to this service, or you are a deferred member, please call the member helpline.
  • Note to members about third-party members consent - Change from February 2012 
  • If you are a deferred member of the NHS Pension Scheme approaching age 60 and you require an AW8P application form to claim your benefits then please click here.
  • If you wish to inform us of a change in address you need to print off and complete this form and send it to NHS Pensions at the address below.  Please note we cannot accept these details via email due to Data Protection regulations.
