We're currently sending Remediable Service Statements (RSS) to NHS Pension Scheme members who:
- have claimed pension benefits from any section of the Scheme
- are affected by the Public Service Pensions Remedy (PSP Remedy), sometimes known as the McCloud remedy
We’ve started with the members most affected by the PSP Remedy.
You can read more about what an RSS is and how it’ll help you make your decision on our Understanding your remedy choice page.
If you've already retired or claimed benefits
We’ve worked closely with the Department of Health and Social Care to agree on forecasted deadlines. These are the latest dates by which we expect to send RSSs to all affected members and beneficiaries who are already receiving pension benefits.
There are two forecasted dates based on the different circumstances of retired members. These timelines reflect how your pension benefits are currently being treated under the Remedy.
These are our current forecasted dates. They’re the latest we expect retired members to receive their RSS. We expect many members will receive their choice much sooner.
Timeline 1: For members whose pension benefits are still affected by discrimination until they receive their choice
This applies to:
- retired members currently receiving 2015 Scheme benefits for some or all of the Remedy period, and those who retired before 1 October 2023
- retired members who built up pension in the 2015 Scheme during the Remedy period and retired before 1 October 2023
This timeline includes most members whose benefits are likely to change because of the Remedy.
We’re currently forecasting that you can expect to receive your RSS by the end of December 2027, subject to key dependencies.
Timeline 2: For members already receiving 1995/2008 Scheme benefits
This applies to:
- retired members whose pension was returned to the 1995/2008 Scheme on 1 October 2023 - for these members, the discrimination has already been addressed in how their pension is currently being paid
- retired members who moved to the 2015 Scheme on 1 April 2022, or retired before moving to the 2015 Scheme
Your RSS will give you personalised calculations to help you compare options, including the option to choose 2015 Scheme benefits instead.
In many cases, members in this group will see little or no change to their current benefits, although individual outcomes will vary.
You can expect to receive your RSS by the end of June 2030.
What happens next
We’ll regularly publish more information to help you understand our latest progress in meeting these deadlines.
We’ll send RSSs in phases, using specific criteria so that similar circumstances are treated consistently and fairly. Some may take longer because they need specialist calculations and additional checks.
Why we’re sending RSSs in batches
We’re prioritising sending RSSs to members whose choice is more likely to affect their pension benefits.
The actual impact for each member depends on their individual circumstances. Your RSS will show your personalised calculations to help you choose the best option for you.
RSS delays
We expect around 80% of cases to be straightforward. You may receive your RSS before the deadline.
Asking to make your choice sooner
There are some situations where you may need to make your choice earlier.
If you’re eligible to make your choice early, you need to request it from us. You can do this by emailing [email protected]. We’ll reply to you within 7 to 10 working days.
In your email, tell us which scenario you meet. This helps us support you better. For example, write ‘A 2’ for scenario A point 2, or ‘B’ for scenario B.
If you have any questions
If you have any other questions about your RSS, you can contact us.
