We're encouraging midwives, practice nurses and health visitors to sign up to the digital service to help reduce the waiting time for paper applications to be processed during the pandemic.
Pregnant and new mothers of babies up to a year old are entitled to free prescriptions and dental treatment.
Registration only takes five minutes and the digital service gives them instant access to their certificate.
Alternatively, paper application forms need to be filled in by mothers and passed on to their GP or midwife to countersign and post. Mothers could wait weeks before receiving their certificate in the post as the forms are often sent in weekly batches. So digital exemption certificates are being promoted to help potentially vulnerable women as they eliminate the need for face-to-face contact.
