The NHS Pensions Remedy Benefits Illustrator has been updated to cover members affected by the McCloud remedy who are at or over their normal minimum pension age and facing redundancy. Going forward, these members can now model their own pension options directly – including a comparison of legacy and 2015 Scheme benefits for the remedy period – without needing to come to you or NHSBSA for a bespoke estimate first.
What this means in practice
You'll still need to point members to the tool and give them their redundancy severance payment details – the redundancy section won't appear until you've directed them there. But once you've done that, members can explore their options themselves and get a clear picture of the financial implications of taking their pension alongside their redundancy payment.
The reality is that most members who request estimates at this stage don't end up applying for their benefits straight away anyway. This tool gives them the information they need to make an informed decision, without adding to your queue.
Members who do want to apply will still need a formal estimate – the tool provides an illustration, not a final calculation. But for the majority, this will remove the need for you to action anything further at that point.
