NHS Pensions is responding to a number of enquiries regarding whole time (SM8) and overlapping employment (SM14) notifications. In these cases, we ask employers to reduce contributions and pay for excess hours or sessions or a whole-time employment, then return contributions to the member as appropriate.
You must review each notification and calculate your own revised figures, updating the record using an SD55E on Pensions Online (POL), or by email if POL access is unavailable. This ensures pension calculations remain accurate.
Returns of contributions must be made, including to former employees. You can then recover the returned contributions from their monthly payment submission.
