NHS Dental Services Portal (NHSDSP) updates and email address guidance

As previously communicated, the NHS Dental Services Portal (NHSDSP) will go live this financial year. NHSDSP is expected to launch in February 2027, subject to successful completion of the remaining key system build and test milestones. Once live, it will replace Compass as the primary platform for managing and accessing NHS dental services information. We will keep you informed of any changes to this timeline.

We’ll be using the primary email address you have registered in Compass to send you an invite to register for the NHSDSP and important information in future, so you must check it’s up to date by 28 August 2026.

We’ll send regular guidance and updates over the coming weeks to support your transition.

Your checklist

Log in to Compass and:

  • Check your email address registered in Compass is personally accessed and monitored regularly.

  • Check whether it’s the email address you want to use to log in to the NHSDSP.

  • Check your email address is unique to you – you must not use a shared mailbox.

  • You must not use a shared or generic mailbox addresses, as each NHSDSP account must have a unique email address.

How to find your email address in Compass:

  • Clinicians: Log in to Compass and use the ‘Self-service personal details’ screen, this is in the ‘Clinician’ folder on the homepage menu.

  • Practice staff and Providers: Log in to Compass and use the 'Participant Update' screen.

  • Activity Manager: You will not have a participant update screen in Compass, please speak to your Practice Manager or Provider who can update this on your behalf.

Why this matters

The NHS Dental Services Portal (NHSDSP) uses GOV.UK One Login, the Government's secure sign-in service, to verify identities and protect sensitive information.

You’ll be invited to register for the service before NHSDSP goes live.

Making sure this email address is accurate and up to date will:

  • help us maintain correct personal data in line with data protection principles

  • ensure communications are sent to your preferred contact email address

  • support a smooth onboarding experience

  • help ensure your existing Compass information can be matched and made available within NHSDSP

What else needs to happen before go live

Action required today To be covered in future communications To be covered in future communications To be covered in future communications
Update your primary email address in Compass Register on the NHSDSP Register your wider teams Prepare for the Compass to NHSDSP transition
Ensure your primary email address in Compass is current and matches the email you plan to use for GOV.UK One Login to receive your NHSDSP invitation and updates. We will send an invitation for you to register for NHSDSP before go-live to your Compass primary email address. Please complete your registration promptly to ensure day-one access to NHSDSP and your historical data. Following your registration, you'll support and register your team before go-live. Ahead of the NHSDSP launch we'll update you on key dates, activities and milestones to help you prepare for the transition and continue your work seamlessly in NHSDSP.

What happens if you do not update your details?

Registration invitations, onboarding information and future updates for NHSDSP will be sent to the primary email address, unique to you, currently recorded in Compass.

If this email address is not your preferred contact address, is no longer accurate, is a shared mailbox/email account or is not the email address you intend to use for NHSDSP and GOV.UK One Login, important communications may be sent to the wrong account which could hinder your ability to use the NHSDSP

If this email is outdated, shared, or different from the one you plan to use for NHSDSP and GOV.UK One Login, you will miss critical communications. This will delay or prevent your access to the system.

Why we are replacing Compass

Compass supports more than 9,000 dental contracts and 35,000 registered accounts and it reliably processes payments. However, it needs to be updated and is becoming increasingly difficult to adapt.

NHSDSP will provide a more flexible platform that supports evolving contractual and payment models, strengthens assurance, and reduces administrative burden for providers, performers and commissioners.
