Accessibility statement for the Knowledge Base Website

This website is run by NHS Business Services Authority. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • It may not be possible to navigate the website using speech recognition software.
  • When navigating around any article on the site using a keyboard, the star rating is not highlighted to indicate focus. This means users will not be aware that the star rating is currently selected when using keyboard navigation.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

NHS Business Services Authority is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • It may not be possible to navigate the website using speech recognition software. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1 (Compatible). We plan to fix this by October 2020.
  • When navigating around any article on the site using a keyboard, the star rating is not highlighted to indicate focus. This means users will not be aware that the star rating is currently selected when using keyboard navigation. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (focus visible). We plan to fix this by October 2020.

How we tested this website

This website was last tested on 4 June 2020 by the NHS Business Services Authority and Tisski test and front end development teams.

We tested our main website platform.

We test all website screens to meet ‘AA’ WCAG 2.1 standards, using manual and automated tests.

We run each webpage through automated Wave and Google Audits accessibility tools then manually test with screen readers (NVDA & Voice Over) and standards checklists.

These checklists contain standards that have been compiled using WCAG, NHS service manual and GDS guidance.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We’re committed to making sure this website is compliant to WCAG 2.1 ‘AA’ standard.

Our accessibility compliance statement will be reviewed every six months. Every new released website will be designed, built and tested to meet ‘AA’ standards by default.

This statement was prepared on 4 June 2020. It was last updated on 8 June 2020
