Requesting our ophthalmic data

If you require access to a specific set of Ophthalmic data this can be requested in different ways. This page details the options available and provides more information on the process involved in each.

Academic Research requests (patient identifiable data)

You can make a request for patient-identifiable dental data by using our Academic Research request process.

Making a request 

  1. Discuss your research project with the NHS Health Research Authority.
  2. Apply to the relevant research ethics committee for approval (this approval must be supplied as part of your application).    
  3. Read our data for research application form (Word: 311KB) and research board terms of reference (Word: 2.1MB).
  4. Complete the research application form (Word: 311KB) and email us at to discuss your request. You need to include any relevant documents (for example, the ethical approval or your legal basis for requesting patient-identifiable data).

How we review your request

Our research board reviews all requests. They decide if it meets the requirements and if we can support it. We'll give you a reason if we're unable to support your request at the time of application. 

Reviews usually take 6 to 8 weeks. It may take longer, depending on our resource availability and how complex the request is.

There will be a non-refundable charge for reviewing your request. If your request is approved, there'll be additional charges to cover the cost of processing and delivering the data.

Make sure you allow plenty of time for your request to be processed, as this can take up to 6 weeks.

Your request will be assessed using our data policy, and may have to be revised. If your request is complex or time consuming, it could be declined. If our team are able to fulfil a large or complex request, we may charge you for this.
