Prescription data

The 'One Drug Database' project has been delayed by one month

We’re now aiming to go live in February 2020 (for December 2019 data).

Due to the delay, we’ve been able to make other improvements to how we provide prescribing information.

You can read more about the improvements and the changes that we’ll be making, and how this affects our systems and reports.

You can also view a test file containing March 2019 data (ZIP: 144MB) for mapping purposes. (The ZIP file contains one Excel file which is 4.7GB).

We provide prescribing, dispensing and organisation data to help NHS stakeholders track trends and to inform decisions.

Using a wide range of information based on prescribing and dispensing, we create reports specific to user needs and requirements.

These reports allow informed decisions to be made to deliver value for money services to patients and taxpayers.

Information is made available to Primary Care Organisations (PCOs), NHS stakeholders and the general public to help with:

  • performance management
  • financial planning
  • following clinical best practice
  • complying with regulations
  • identifying outlier behaviour
  • publishing national statistics

You can also view our Data Release Calendar.
