Rollback of remedy period service

The first stage of the remedy is rollback. Only some members will be affected by rollback. From 1 October 2023, if you were a member with either no protection or tapered protection, any continuous service you had in the remedy period (1 April 2015 to 31 March 2022) will be placed into your legacy scheme. In the NHS this is the 1995/2008 Scheme. This is called rollback.

Find out if you’re affected by looking at our Understanding if your NHS Pension is affected by changes to public service pensions webpage.

Your service for the remedy period will be rolled back automatically. It will remain in your legacy scheme until you’ve made a choice about the benefits you want to receive for this period. You do not need to do anything until we contact you.

We're aiming to start offering members choice on retirement from summer 2024. If you're retiring before this date, we'll contact you and ask you to make your choice later. We’ll provide you with information at the time to help you make your decision.
